Event Description
Welcome to Southern Grit Endurance Challenge
Located in south-central Kentucky, Southern Grit takes place in a landscape where rugged hills meet gently rolling terrain — a natural transition between the Appalachian Plateau and the Bluegrass region. Nestled in the distinctive “Knobs” region, steep wooded hills rise dramatically from fertile farmland, creating a striking and scenic backdrop. The race unfolds in the small community of Butchertown, in northern Casey County.
Race Overview
Southern Grit offers 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-hour races, along with 6- and 12-hour ruck events, promising a true test for athletes of all backgrounds and abilities. This spectator-friendly event invites runners, families, and friends to enjoy an unforgettable weekend of endurance, camaraderie, and fun.
Main Aid Station
One of the best parts of Southern Grit Endurance Challenge is the warm, community atmosphere at our main aid station, located right at the start/finish line. We’ll also have water and Tailwind available out on the course for quick replenishment while you’re on your loop.
At the main station, you’ll find all the essentials — water, electrolytes, and classic aid station snacks — plus delicious hot food you won’t want to miss.
If you prefer self-aid, you’re in luck — you’ll pass your tent or vehicle on every loop, making it easy to grab your own food, gear, and supplies without stepping off the course.

What is a Ruck?
We're excited to offer the Rucking Division for the 6/12 hour event only. For those new to the concept, rucking involves walking or hiking with a weighted pack. The term originates from the military word "Rucksack, " meaning "Backpack."
Weight Requirements:
Over 150lb: 20 lb dry weight
Under 150lb: 10 lb dry weight
Weigh-ins will occur 30 minutes before the race start.
You must weigh-in. To make this administratively simple-no weigh-in = no finishers patch.
The weight must be in the form of a steel ruck plate, weight vest blocks, bumper plates, or other items with clearly stamped weight. Participants may not remove or reduce the weight during the event and may face random checks at aid stations or anywhere on the course. We rely on the honor system, so please do the right thing.
We are excited to say each finisher will receive a patch once your race is officially over or you've tapped out.
Note: All particicpants will receive a patch along with other race swag.
